Ece Asitanelioğlu is an emerging artist from Istanbul, Turkey. After graduating from an
international high-school with a dual diploma she moved to Vancouver, Canada. She completed her BA in Visual Arts at the University of British Columbia in 2022. Throughout her degree, Ece experimented with various media; her current main artistic practice focusses primarily on painting.
During her undergrad, Ece partook in three group exhibitions that included: “Visual Art
Undergraduate Exhibition” (AHVA Gallery, Audain Art Centre, 2020), “What is a student body?” (Hatch Art Gallery, AMS Student Nest, 2022), and “MESH Visual Art Graduating Exhibition” (AHVA Gallery, Audain Art Centre, 2022). After graduating from UBC, she exhibited in two group exhibitions at North Van Arts called “Women, Life, Freedom” in 2023 and "Clean Slate” in 2025.
Ece’s abstract pieces showcase different tones of black, adding depth and layers to a colour that absorbs all other colours. Subtle variations in texture and material allow light to paint a new image across the surface from different angles and lighting. In some of her sculptural paintings, Ece introduces industrial and construction materials. She enjoys incorporating their sense of masculinity into her practice. She aims for the viewers to approach her work closely and observe the details that disappear with distance.
