Bihrat Mavitan was born in 1948 in Izmir, Turkey. Growing up surrounded by the rich cultures of music and art in the Karşıyaka district, he was notably influenced by the local Greek community. In 1968, Bihrat entered the Sculpture Department of what is now Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul.
Bihrat began his academic career in 1975 as an assistant at the UESYO (Applied Industrial Arts Higher School), affiliated with the academy. He continued at the Basic Art Sciences Department from 1977. In 1984, due to dress code restrictions imposed on academics, he resigned after refusing to shave his beard and continued his artistic work in his personal studio.
Bihrat Mavitan, an award-winning artist who has participated in numerous group exhibitions and held solo shows, works in both sculpture and painting. He uses materials like metal, leather, and bronze in his sculptures, drawing inspiration from his dreams to create original works in a figurative and decorative style.
